About The Email Updates
A few people mentioned to me last night not knowing about something this week. Then they admitted they don't always check their email everyday. You can depend on receiving at least two email updates from my email address each week -- one early in the week and one on Friday morning. From time to time as needed additional email updates are sent and occasionally there might be a second one on the same day if there is important news or a pressing care and concern. Kevin also occasionally sends email messages directly the choir as he did twice this week from either his email address or from Eedy's email address at the church. These messages are sent to you to keep you in the know about the Chancel Choir. Look for them in your inbox.

The remainder will be used for special projects for the church. Thank you again for your generous support.”

Choir Officers Meeting
Chancel Choir officers discussed a number of business items at a short meeting before rehearsal last night. Here is a brief summary:
-- Heard a report on the tables and chairs donated to Centenary UMC. The tables are set up and in use. Extra money from the project will be used for other needs at Centenary. A report to the choir on how the money it donated to the project was used will be coming soon.
-- Collection of gift cards for Circle of Concern was a success. The goal of 100 $15 cards was reached and they have been delivered.
-- A community outreach singing day for area senior centers will be held in the spring.
-- Additional opportunities to help serve meals at Cententary are available during the holidays.
-- Kevin reported there would be no child care available at the 8 a.m. worship service this Sunday. Several singers with young children will be affected. He said he would appeal to the church staff if the choir is scheduled at 8 a.m. frequently.
-- The holiday dinner and dance was discussed. Officers decided to extend an invitation to other music groups to attend the party including adult handbells and the Sanctuary Choir that sings at the 5 p.m. Saturday worship service.
-- A deposit for this year's retreat will be carried over until next year.
-- A bill for the Sunday buffet lunch for the Chicago tour trip this spring has been received. Persons on the trip will be billed for the lunch and asked to pay as soon as possible since the cost was placed on one of our hosts credit cards.
-- Officers asked Kevin to explain to the choir about the fee paid to the choir for performing at the Holiday Brass concert and how the money would be used. The $2000 will be used to pay for the cost of bus transportation to the Cathedral with the remainder going to help pay for the $10,000 cost of the orchestra for the two Christmas concerts next week. Officers said the choir should know that orchestra fees for one concert run around $7,500 and the additional cost this year is for adding another concert to accommodate the large crowds expected to attend. Concert offerings will be used to help pay for the orchestra with the remainder coming from the Music Ministry budget and not from the choir's activity funds raised by Chancel Choir members.
-- The choir's activity fund balance is $13,400.

Cares and Concerns
We are saddened to report the death of Tenor Gene Stukey's sister-in-law, Kathy Bereitschaft. She died Monday (12/7) after a long illness. Funeral services are today (12/11) in Carmel, Ind.

Cares and Concerns
We received the following note from Genny Schumacher who serves as the church's liaison with Centenary United Methodist Church:
"Hello friends!
As you may know, Centenary Cares has gone through a name change, now being called "The Bridge". I wanted to thank you all for the wonderful support you've shown to those served by The Bridge through your financial support and volunteer hours in the kitchen. I also wanted to let you know about another way to support The Bridge -- the "FACES" note cards. These are designs that were created by actual clients served at the agency. A set of 12, with 4 designs, sells for $10. If you would be interested in purchasing any of the FACES note cards, please contact me at LADYBEAD@aol.com, and I will be happy to meet up with you at church. Many thanks again for your support to The Bridge, and blessings to all of you in this beautiful season of Advent."

This from Diane Lawrence: "As many of you know, Tom and I have had our daughter, Nanette, and children living with us while waiting for the birth of Brooks on Nov. 1. (Daddy, Greg, is working temporarily in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.) Since the other grandparents will be visiting this weekend it is a logical time for a baptism. Since this is Hanging of the Green weekend we are being a little unorthodox and having the baptism after the 10:50 service. We need family. So if you can possibly stay a little after the service to be a congregation for us we would appreciate it very much."

-- Approved Jan. 23 as the date for the holiday party. Will return to Spazios. Cost of the party will be determined as soon as we know expenses. Officers decided to look at a new alternative the next year's holiday party.
-- Centennary Church is receiving 32 tables and chairs from the church. The choir's money for the tables may have been committed after the tables were finalized, however there will be other needs for help at Centennary. Uses for the $560 will be identified.
-- Kevin announced plans to challenge everyone in the choir to take a turn serving lunch at Centennary between now and Nov. 11, 2011.
-- Discussed the need for additional child care during choir concerts, special rehearsals and Sunday worship. A member of the choir was told no child care was available during the 8 a.m. worship service when the Chancel Choir sang for the early service. She said it was difficult for young people to participate in choir if there was no child care available. Officers discussed options and agreed lack of child care was hendering the Chancel Choir from carrying out its mission and adding younger members. Kevin is going to discuss this concern with the church staff.
-- A plans for the choir to divide into four smaller groups and sing simultaneously at for local nursing homes was discussed. The event would be held on a Sunday afternoon and was originally considered for January. It is now tentatively planned for April.
-- Treasurer Kathryn Cox reported a balance of $13,500 in the choir's activity fund.

Scientific Notice
On first glance you may think the photo below captures a stem cell experiment gone array. You could also assume it's evidence showing a bad result from plastic surgery on the eyelid. Or it could be a "how to" photo included with a makeup kit from Johnny Brock's. But actually, its a photo of the exact moment when Bass Doug Ross discovered he is allergic to bee stings. Doug was stung on the temple while singing Silent Night on the Touhill Stage during the Chancel Choir retreat. He didn't think much about it at the time. "I felt ruffling in my hair and a sharp pain on my head. But I kept singing." Then later at home his "high definition" vision went on the blink. A quick trip to the "doc in the box" on Manchester Road and a hand full of prednisone tablets got him back to normal in a couple of days. "It didn't really hurt, but having one eye the size of the Loch Ness Monster's is a little annoying." Doug is sharing his picture with us in the holiday spirit. Happy Halloween.

Pipe Screams Sunday Night

It's back by popular demand this year. Don't miss Pipe Screams, the spooky organ concert this Sunday evening. I'm frightened just thinking about it while I type this note. There are several rumors swirling around this concert. One reports that a special guest emcee will be present. Another says the entire concert will be performed on a Magnus Chord Organ. Yet another speculates massive quantities of dry ice will be consumed during production of the concert. We couldn't verify any of this, but I'm showing up just to find out.

Chancel Choir Officers Have Quick Meeting
Choir officers conducted a few items of business before rehearsal last night. President Donna Biolchini reported that two Chancel Choir members had volunteered to decorate their car trunks for the Trunk or Treat event prior to the Pipe Screams concert. About 25 car trunks are expected to be decorated for the event. She also reported a request had been received to have a recycle bin put in the choir room. After discussion about the church's recycling program, it was decided to place a small container near the music folder files. A church custodian will have to empty the contents of the choir room bin into another bin on the lower level provided by the recycling contractor.
