Chancel Choir Update 12/29: Fall Follies Slide Show On Web Site
Are you back at work today and finding things a little boring on the job? Or do you have some spare time at home this week with nothing interesting to do? Well, here's something to pick up your day. A slide show featuring 98 photos from the MUMC Fall Follies is now available for your viewing pleasure on the Chancel Choir Web site. The slide show was created with some fancy new software and features dozens of photos you haven't seen before. Just click on the link provided below to relive the thrill of the Fall Follies. You may also access the slide show by going to the choir's Web site, clicking on Members section button, and then click on MUMC Fall Follies Slide Show. While the slide show is created in a compressed format, it may take a little while for you to download it if you are using a "dialup" Internet connection. Be patient. Also, the December issue of the Chancel Times is now on the Web site in case you want to read it on your computer screen.

Chancel Choir Update 12/26: Holiday Choir Schedule / News You Can Use
Chancel Choir Does Not Sing For Sunday Worship Until January 11

If you usually feel the need to harmonize on Sunday morning, you'll have to do it in the privacy of your own shower for the next two weeks. Chancel Choir will not sing on Sunday morning until January 11. There will also be no choir rehearsals until January 8. Because there has been some reported confusion about our holiday schedule, we'll restate this another way:
Sunday, December 28 -- No Chancel Choir
Sunday, January 4 -- No Chancel Choir
Thursday, January 1 -- No Chancel Choir Rehearsal
Thursday, January 8 -- First Rehearsal of The New Year -- Be There
Sunday, January 11 -- Next Time Chancel Sings on Sunday -- Be There

You are encouraged to attend church on Sunday, Jan. 4 to hear several of our youth alumni involved in the Young Artists concert to be presented later that evening.

Holiday Party Money Is Due Now
Of course you are planning to attend the Chancel Choir's social event of the year. But, unless you get your money in by January 4, you'll be sadly disappointed. The Chancel Choir holiday party will be held from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 10, at Spazio's in Westport located in the Comfort Inn at 12031 Lackland Road. (A map will be printed in the December issue of the Chancel Times.) A buffet dinner catered by LaRousso's will be served and there will be a cash bar. A highly recommended DJ will provided appropriate music for dancing. Cost for attending the party is $25 per person. Money is due on or before Sunday, January 4, to Lois Hendrickson, chairperson for this year's party. Make checks payable to MUMC and mail or hand them only to Lois. If your check has not been received by Jan. 4, you will not have a seat at the party. Lois Hendrickson's address is: 1047 Camargo Dr., Ballwin, MO 63011. Her phone number is 636-394-7536.

Cares and Concerns
Fran Abbott, mother-in-law of choir president Moe Parisien and mother of Chancel Choir Queen Joy Parisien, is recovering from surgery Tuesday to treat a bone infection in her leg. She remains hospitalized at Missouri Baptist Medical Center.
Many of our choir family are ill with cases of flu and other seasonal sickness. Take care, lay low, drink plenty of fluids and don't forget the chicken soup.

Hope your holidays are health and happy.

Chancel Choir Update 12/17: No Rehearsal This Week/Other News/Cares and Concerns
No Rehearsal Tomorrow Night, December 18

If you show up at rehearsal tomorrow night, you'll have a lonely evening. No rehearsal will be held tomorrow night so that the 30 or so singers participating in the Christmas extravaganza with the Metro Singers may take the fancy stage at Powell Hall. In other words, we get the night off -- a perfect time to do some Christmas shopping.

Chancel Choir Sings This Sunday at 10:30 a.m. and at 9 p.m. on Christmas Eve
The choir will sing for the 10:30 a.m. service this Sunday. Report at 10 a.m. as usual. On Christmas Eve we will sing for the 9 p.m. service. Report at 8:30 p.m.

If You're Going to The Jan. 10 Holiday Party, Send Your Money Now
Money for the Chancel Choir holiday party is due to Lois Hendrickson by Sunday, Jan. 4. If you plan to attend, send or hand your money to Lois now. The holiday party will be held Saturday, January 10, at Spazio's in Westport located in the Comfort Inn at 12031 Lackland Road. A buffet dinner catered by LaRousso's will be served and there will be a cash bar. A highly recommended DJ will provided appropriate music for dancing. Cost for attending the party is $25 per person. Chancel Times Is Coming To A Mailbox Near You
The December issue of the choir newsletter is completed. However, we're waiting on a replacement part for the color laser printer used to produce the newsletter. It's due in from Chicago today. Look for the newsletter in a plain white envelope in your mailbox soon. Between the technical difficulties and a case of the flu last week, the newsletter is running late. But, we hope you'll think it's worth the wait. There's five pages of pictures from the Fall Follies, a complete treasurer's report, photographic moments captured from the retreat, a photo of three penguins caught singing to a choir member, and some very interesting gossip.

Cares and Concerns
Alto Joyce Humphrey has just learned that her father has suffered a reoccurrence of colon cancer. Please keep Joyce and her father in your prayers.

Chancel Choir Update 12/8: Holiday Choir Party/News You Can Use
Chancel Choir Holiday Party January 10; Reservations Are Due Now

Now that the concert is out of the way, lets turn our attention to the important stuff -- the holiday party. As you may have heard, this year the traditional Chancel Choir Christmas party has been reinvented into a holiday party and is scheduled for Saturday, January 10, at 7 p.m. If you plan to attend, you need to reserve seats and pay as soon as possible. Here are the details:
The Chancel Choir holiday party will be held from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 10, at Spazio's in Westport located in the Comfort Inn at 12031 Lackland Road. (A map will be printed in the December issue of the Chancel Times.) A buffet dinner catered by LaRousso's will be served and there will be a cash bar. A highly recommended DJ will provided appropriate music for dancing. Cost for attending the party is $25 per person. Reservations are due on or before Sunday, January 4, to Lois Hendrickson, chairperson for this year's party. Make checks payable to MUMC and mail or hand them only to Lois. If your check has not been received by Jan. 4, you will not have a reservation to attend the party. Lois Hendrickson's address is: 1047 Camargo Dr., Ballwin, MO 63011. Her phone number is 636-394-7536. Many people requested a change in the format for the annual Christmas party. Choir officers appointed a task force last year to look at options. This holiday party was the best option to try this year and was approved by choir officers. Bottom line -- we're going to have a great time celebrating a great fall season for Chancel Choir.

Great Holiday Food Ideas Are Just a Click Away
Headed for a party and need to take a dish to share. The Chancel Choir Web master has been busy collecting some of the finest finger food recipes around and put them on the choir Web site for your holiday entertaining needs. Many of the creations have been sampled and approved by the Web master. An exceptional choice is one for shrimp bisque guaranteed to put any crabby Christmas shopper in a better mood. We are also tracking down a recipe for Wanton appetizers containing sausage and cheese filling that could easily take the prize for best appetizer for the year. More than 20 need recipes have been added to the Web site on the recipe page under Choir Information. It is important to note that none of these food creations have been approved for use with any of the current diet fads going around -- Atkins, Southbeach, Cheerleader. The use of fat laden, tasty ingredients is recommended for preparation of these recipes to assure exceptional taste and texture.

Chancel Choir Update 12/1: Cares and Concerns
Alto Kristie Whitney will undergo surgery tomorrow at St. Luke's Hospital for treatment of breast cancer. She will recover at home. Our thoughts and prayers are with her and her family during her recovery.

Chancel Choir Update 11/20: Choir "Thanksgiving" Dinner This Saturday
Thanksgiving Dinner at Steak 'N Shake This Saturday Night

The November Chancel Choir social event is a "Thanksgiving" Dinner at Steak 'N Shake this Saturday night. Again this year we'll go over the river and through the woods to grandma's favorite restaurant. We'll meet at the Steak 'N Shake on Manchester Road near Mason Road at 6:30 p.m., this Saturday, Nov. 22, for a turkey (or steak) burger and pumpkin pie dinner. (Or you can order anything else on the menu.) Following dinner you're invited to the home of soprano JoAnn Jones and husband Bruce for games, visiting and relaxing. They live nearby at 13536 Royal Glen. Join us for one or both this Saturday. A signup sheet will circulate at rehearsal tonight.

Chancel Choir Update From Kevin McBeth - November 19, 2003
IMPORTANT REHEARSAL THIS WEEK: This Thursday is a very important rehearsal in preparation for our upcoming concert. It is the final time we have before joining the brass choir. Please make every effort to attend, even if it's just a portion of the evening.

CONCERT SIGNUP: Last Thursday, we began the offical signup for the Christmas Fanfare concert. Please see your section managers to make sure you have a "chair" reserved for the big event.

REHEARSALS WITH BRASS: As usual, we will have 2 rehearsals with the brass choir prior to the concert. Due to the busy weekend, the schedule is a little different. The first rehearsal is our typical Thursday night, December 4. There will not be a Saturday rehearsal! The second rehearsal with the brass will be on concert day, Sunday, December 7. Following the 10:30am service, we'll break for lunch (either head off to Bread Co., or "brown bag" it) and then we'll rehearse from 1:00-3:00pm. We'll break from 3:00-6:15pm, and then gather for warmup. It's going to be an exciting night!

CARNEGIE CLARIFICATION: Yes, there is another trip being planned to sing at Carnegie Hall next November. It will not be an all choir event, however. I was invited to go and conduct, and wanted some MUMC supervision! (Right!) The trip is open to anyone who would like to participate, but the preparation of the Faure Requiem will happen apart from regular choir activities. Although this is the 4th time out, this will be a great opportunity for any of our new choir members who have joined since the last adventure. FYI ... of the 22 we now have signed up, 14 are new to Chancel Choir!

New Member Orientation: There will be a brief meeting with new Chancel Choir members (those who have joined this season) at 7:00pm tomorrow night. Plesae come and let us know how we're doing!

We're not sure if there will be a video for purchase, but a rough video recording will be available for viewing. Will Brinkhorst is in charge of the video.

Coventry Christmas Dinner/Concert Tickets Are Going Fast

The annual event will be held on Friday, Dec. 5 and Saturday, Dec. 6 this year. Friday night is currently 70 percent sold out and there are just a few tickets left for Saturday night. Get your tickets at the Coventry concert ticket table in the Narthex this Sunday morning.

Chancel Choir Update 11/10: Cares and Concerns
Soprano Mary Ann Sumpter's mother, Annabell Dean, will undergo heart surgery tomorrow, Tuesday, Nov. 11, at Des Peres Hospital. The procedure is needed to repair work performed on her heart during a previous heart operation. Mary Ann's mother is also diabetic. Despite her health, she attended the Fall Follies Sunday night. Our thoughts and prayers are with her.

Chancel Choir Update 11/9: Follies Recap

What a wonderful show last night. I had a great time and I hope all of you who either worked on the show or performed in it did too. It was a tremendous success.

The Early Stats. The final attendance count is estimated at 700. We made about $350 on concessions during intermission, according to Harriet. Our expenses should be in the $700 range. After a tithe to the church, we should clear something in the $5000 range. This is my estimate and since I'm not a numbers guy, we've got Jacque Rocchio and John Lemen to work out the final report in a few days. Although we didn't sell the place out, 700 is a very good attendance for a first-time event. And if the comments in the Narthex last night and this morning are any indication, we should have no trouble selling the place out and lining cars up on Manchester Road to get in to the next Follies production. We owe a great debt of thanks to the church for allowing us to produce this kind of show for a fundraiser. I was reminded this morning that we do have a special congregation that is excited and accepting of this kind of show. Not all churches would be and we're blessed to be a part of a congregation that is diverse enough to enjoy entertainment as well as traditional avenues for worship and spiritual growth.

Thanks To Bill Borger. Speaking of thanks yous, we also owe a hugh debt of thanks to Bill Borger. Many of you are aware of Bill's contribution to One Voice and the Drama Ministry. But Bill's only connection to the Chancel Choir is that he said yes on the phone to me this spring when I asked him if he would produce a talent show for us. He was anxious to put his training and experience to work for us raising money for the choir. In fact, he said he's always wanted to do a talent show at the church ever since he arrived here and was excited that we would give him a chance to do what he loves. You see, Bill's formal training is in theater arts and technical production. He spent much of his career producing shows for Six Flags Over Texas similar to the one we did last night. But, his level of expertise is only the beginning of the story. In business and especially in service organizations such as churches, it is rare and exceptional to encounter a person that is professional, detail oriented, compassionate, sensitive, dependable, encouraging, tolerant, accepting, positive an committed. All of these describe how Bill related to both the production staff and the performers as they prepared for this show. The performances you saw on stage last night are a direct result of these qualities in our director and his gentle and graceful way of relating to our volunteer cast and crew. All of this plus attention to detail. Many of you may be unaware that he provided compete and detailed production schedules, time lines and technical cues on spread sheets to all of production staff and revised them regularly from the first day of auditions through the dress rehearsal.

Some Thoughts On The Show.
-- We had about 25 patrons enjoying dessert and a quite pre-show party in Old Fellowship Hall about an hour before the show. Once and future Chancel Choir member Joe Elstner set the mood for the party with some jazz piano. After the party, he was on the front row enjoying our show and probably remembering when he was a part of the old MUMY Revue several years ago. I have been encouraging Joe to return to Choir for some time. Perhaps if we get the entire choir to prod him, we'll see Joe in the bass section once again.

-- Watching the auditions for this show back in September was an experience. Seeing the raw product before it's crafted, packaged, refined, rehearsed and produced into a finished product a little scary. This is where the skills of a good director come in to play -- seeing the potential and how a performance can look. My reaction often was, "he's going to do what?" Bill was always diplomatic in his reply. "It has a lot of potential. Actually it can be quit good."

-- One of the busiest guys during the show was Tom Lawrence. In the last couple of weeks between business trips to Ohio, Alaska, and I can't remember where else, he managed to practice with several acts, perform his own number, and direct the band for Big Bon and the Boogie Boys. His versatility was matched only by his wardrobe.

-- Much of the show's excitement, energy and humor originated with dancing. Once again we can thank Laura Ferree. This time I had a chance to watch the entire process of taking some fine choir singers and making them into a chorus line for a big finish production number. I was there the night Laura first introduced our "scrub women" to their steps which she had conceived and planned on paper. To be honest, I couldn't believe they would be able to do this. Slowly, over the next few weeks, Laura broke the routine into segments, had them learn each move methodically, encouraged them with kind words and excitement, then joined segments together until the full act was intact. Then the props -- the mops, buckets, scarves -- then the costumes, the moves, the expressions and the singing. It was a small miracle to behold. And the same thing happened with the "fightin' cowboys", the Four Seasons, the Staff Sisters, Pick-a-Little and the big Finale. Laura, along with Bill and his wife, Lori, transformed singers into dancers. It was magic to watch. I'm hoping for a tap dance number in the next show.

-- Trees and cocktail tables on the chancel? That was my reaction last summer when Bill showed the production staff a detailed drawing of his ideas for the talent show set. Although the original ideas evolved and were revised into what you saw last night, it was the set production crew that came up with creative ways of make a set that could go up quickly and come down in time for church this morning. The trees were made of one-inch thick styrofoam -- the kind you insulate a house with. Sue Shepard and her crew of choir volunteers made frames for the trees, cut out the foliage, painted them and assembled them. All of this was accomplished in the third floor "drama" storage room off the mezzanine. Archie Bunker's living room and a dog house for Snoopy were assembled on rolling platforms. Add to that windows and a "thrust" runway and you've got a show. Originally, the small tables were going to be on the chancel floor with the performances taking place in front of them as if in a cabaret. But, that's why they call them plans -- they can change.

-- In case your are curious, the idea for reviving the MUMY Revue format came from a lunch discussion in New York a year ago this week. Members of the choir's Ad Hoc Team For Marketing and Fund Raising had been meeting for a few weeks prior to our New York trip attempting to come up with ideas for fund raising projects for the choir. A discussion over lunch at the Pershing Cafe across the street from our hotel resulted in a number of ideas that were eventually refined into a short list that included a musical revue in the spirit of the MUMY Revue. The Ad Hoc Team formed a show production board and approached the choir officers about producing a show to raise money. The result was last night's performance. Will there be another show? I hope so. Of course there'll be a few tweaks and changes. We'll figure out what worked best and what we can do differently. But, I think we're onto something. And we can build on our now famous reputation. It's hard to imagine what the next Follies might be like.

-- There will be an audio CD of the show availabe. I'll have a sign up for you at the next rehearsal. There was a video tape made of the show. At the least it will be available for viewing and Will may make them available ounce the digital audio is merged with the pictures.

-- Here's where I run the risk of leaving someone out of the "thank you" list. But, I am not going to let that stop me. If you're left out, I'm still thanking you. Performers -- wow, for the worry, practice, rehearsal, jitters, exceptional execution and laughter. Production Staff and Operations Staff -- advance planning and worry over the months of preparation. Set Crew -- paint on the finger nails, hours of assembly and construction, setting up, taking down, putting away. Stage Crew -- smooth transitions, pestering questions like "have you got your mike", attention to detail, rolling stuff on stage in the dark. Technical Crew -- lights, sound, slides, Mr. Screen, Will Brinkhorst and the churh AV people, outstanding. House Crew -- ushering, ticket sales, greeting, parking, all needed and thankless until now. Patron Party Crew -- a lovely event, classy decoration, nice table of desserts, a pleasant pre-event. Concession Workers -- big cookies, set up, sales, scooping popcorn, pouring drinks. Marketing -- program/ticket design, printing, promotion, ticket sales. The House Band -- drum rolls, backup, lookin good. Accompanists -- Ted Cronbaugh and Tom Lawrence. Patience, understanding, encouragement. Choreographers -- giving us the moves. Wardrobe -- finding hats, chaps, dog suits, clown suits, and you name it.

Daylight Savings Time Change This Weekend

Twice a year we anxiously look toward the door of the choir room on Sunday morning wondering who will walk in late or early because they forgot to change their clocks. That opportunity happens again this Sunday. Daylight Savings Time ends at 2 a.m. this Sunday morning. Let us repeat that: Daylight Savings Time ends this Sunday. That means you should set your clocks back one hour before going to bed Saturday night. Remember: "Spring forward, fall back." If you don't, you'll arrive for church an hour early Sunday and we'll all say hello toyou when we get there.

A visitation will be held Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Buescher Memorial Home, 429 E. Capitol, in Jefferson City, Mo. Burial will be Tuesday in Jefferson City. A memorial service will also be held later this week in Florida.

CHANCEL CHOIR UPDATE 10/19: Fall Follies Show Is Upgraded / Props Are Needed
Fall Follies Talent Show Has Been Upgraded To "Musical Revue" Status

Over the past several days, choir members have approached members of the Fall Follies production staff and choir officers asking them if the talent show is going to be good enough for them to sell tickets to their co-workers, friends and relatives. Their concern is that the show will be a hodge-podge of amateur talent and not up to the par of our normal choir concerts. They are afraid they might be embarrassed inviting their friends and co-workers because of the quality of the show. With rehearsals now underway, production staff working to gather props and costumes, and set construction beginning, it's time to set the record straight.

The show will consist of more than 30 acts (a complete list appears later in this email update). The acts include comedy sketches, vocal solos, quartets, and dance and performance ensembles. All acts have been auditioned and are currently in rehearsal. Over the next two weeks, each act will rehearse with show production staff and will participate in several run-throughs and a dress rehearsal. Bill Borger, the show's director, who incidentally produced variety shows for Six Flags Over Texas, is confident that the show will be of similar quality to the 100 Years of Broadway production the choir presented in June. Each act is being rehearsed and coached by the production staff. Dance choreography is being created for appropriate acts by Laura Ferree who choreographed our Broadway show. A set featuring an autumn theme will be constructed. The show will have two emcees who will do comedy and commentary. There will be a house band to provide music during breaks in the show and at intermission. Light refreshments will be available from concession stands in Fellowship Hall during intermission.

Going forward, we're upgrading the show to a "musical revue." The term "talent show" will no longer be used. This will avoid confusion and misunderstanding. Our Fall Follies Musical Revue will be larger in scale and a more polished production than the memorable MUMY Revue talent show of years gone by. The only similarity will be the use of talent from throughout the church.

We should all feel very comfortable inviting our co-workers, friends and bosses to this show. It will be unique in that few churches have the talent and resources to present this scope of musical revue. Your friends will have a great time. Sell as many tickets as you can because the 60 or so performers in the show deserve to have a full house and the choir deserves to make as much money from the production as possible. Remember, this is the choir's only fund raiser for the year.

Props Are Sought For MUMC Fall Follies Musical Review
The Fall Follies production staff is asking choir members for help in locating some props needed to dress the stage for the MUMC Fall Follies Musical Revue. The props will be used during the show and rehearsal and will be returned in good condition. We need the following:

10 cafe tables measuring 24 inches in diameter

CHANCEL CHOIR UPDATE 10/15: News You Can Use
The Penguins Await Us At Zoo This Saturday

The penguins have dusted off their formal ware and are ready for us to visit this Saturday morning. And we've got a dining room reserved at Zia's one of the best places for lunch on The Hill. In fact, we've even arranged for a personal, private guided tour of the penguin house. We'll meet at the Zoo sculpture at the south entrance to the Zoo promptly at 10 a.m. It's Boo At The Zoo weekend and there'll be a crowd, so we'll leave for the penguin house exactly at 10 a.m. Then it's lunch at Zia's at 1 p.m. Come to the zoo or join us for lunch or, better yet, join us for both. But whatever you do, we'll need you to sign up at rehearsal Thursday night -- the absolute deadline -- because we need an advance count for lunch.

Fall Follies Talent Show Update
Performers are rehearsing and cookies are baking for the MUMC Fall Follies Talent Show extravaganza set for Saturday, Nov. 8. There are still jobs in need of volunteers so check the signups at rehearsal tomorrow night. Larry Woolweaver has agreed to manage the ushers, patron ushers and parking lot attendants. (Jim Belval is in the process of moving to another house and needs to focus on that production instead, but we thank him for his early efforts.) We trust ticket sales are going well.

Officers Vote To Return Retreat To Dittmer Next Year
The 2004 Chancel Choir Retreat will again be held at the Revive Us Again conference center in Dittmer, Mo. Choir officers voted to return to Dittmer at their meeting last week. Beginning in 2005, the choir is booked into the Mercy Center in Town and Country. Officers felt it would be easier to return to Dittmer in 2004 rather than locate a retreat site for the interim year. Due to scheduling conflicts, the 2004 retreat will probably be held in September.

Retreat Recipes Are Posted On Web Site
Several people have requested recipes for various treats taken to the retreat. Those recipes have been added to the choir's already lengthy recipe list on the choir Web site. If you have a favorite recipe to share, email it to the choir Web master.

CHANCEL CHOIR UPDATE 10/9: Zoo Trip and Lunch On The Hill / Other News
Zoo Trip to See Penguins and Lunch At Zias on October 18

That's right, it two "Zs" and a some penguins for the choir on Saturday, Oct. 18. The October social outing will feature a visit to the St. Louis Zoo's new penguin exhibit followed by lunch on The Hill at Zia's. We'll meet at the famous ZOO statute in front of the south zoo entrance at 10 a.m. and visit with our penguin friends. Then it's off to the Hill for lunch at Zia's, 5256 Wilson, at 1 p.m. Kids are welcome and you can go to the Zoo or join us for lunch or do both. But, we'll need an advance count for lunch, so a sign up sheet will be circulated at rehearsals this week and next week. Absolute deadline for lunch will be the rehearsal on Oct. 16. Questions may be directed to the choir's social director, Sandy Ford, at 636-227-5749.

Talent Show Volunteers Still Needed; Tickets Distributed This Week
As tickets go on sale for the Nov. 8 MUMC Fall Follies Talent Show, we are still needing volunteers to help work on the production. A full sign up sheet for several jobs will be available at this week's rehearsal. We only have six people signed up to help with the pre-show patron party. At least twice that many people are needed. There are some other areas where additional help is needed as well. This is your chance to help with the choir's only fundraiser for the year. Tickets will be distributed to all choir members at this week's rehearsal. Each choir member will be asked to sell four tickets. Couples in the choir will be given a total of six tickets. Talent show tickets will also go on sale in the Narthex this Sunday between worship services.

No Choir In The Loft This Sunday
The Chancel Choir will not sing this Sunday. We get the morning off, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't attend church. We've found that the balcony provides an interesting perspective on worship.

Keylime Cheese Ball Availability
A keylime cheese ball brought to the retreat treat table by Sue Lemley proved such a hit, a multitude of requests for the recipe were received. Here's the scoop and the cheese ball. It's a mix. And that mix is only available in Fenton. That's right. If you want to enjoy a keylime cheese ball in the privacy of your own home, you'll need to visit the Tin Cup, 464 Old Smizer Mill Road in Fenton, Mo. 63026 or call them at 636-343-8383. That's where the mix is available. Sue says this is a unique gift and floral shop that apparently also traffics in cheese ball mixes. If they ask, tell 'em the preacher sent you.

CHANCEL UPDATE 10/5: News From Choir Retreat
For those of you who missed the Chancel Choir Retreat in Dittmer on Friday and Saturday, here is an update of some of the news announced and discussed during the event. More than 120 choir members attended the retreat with 36 staying overnight on Friday. More than 8 hours of rehearsal time was logged and there was also opportunity for fun and recreation. Rainy weather canceled the bonfire on Friday night. However, pre assembled packages of Smoor ingredients were distributed for eating "raw". (Some people learned that leaving the package in the car simulates exposure to a bonfire.) Here is the news from the retreat:

Chancel Choir International Tour To Great Britain Planned for June 2005
Kevin announced that plans are in the works for a choir tour to Great Britain in June of 2005. He asked choir members to reserve a week to 10 days for the tour, however exact dates have not been determined. The tour will include England, Scotland and Wales and include singing engagements at some notable sites that could include Westminster Abby and Coventry. Kevin is working with a tour company to finalize details for the trip, which will be announced soon. So far no cost estimate has been determined.

Rutter Debut Concert Has Been Canceled
Due to a problem with timing, the concert in which the Chancel Choir would perform the midwest debut of a new piece by John Rutter has been canceled. Kevin said the timing would have required a performance in early February. That would mean the choir would have to learn the piece in four rehearsals following the Christmas holidays. This wasn't workable and Kevin told the publisher we couldn't do the concert. The loss is minimal -- other than some publicity, the choir would have realized nothing special for its effort.

Talent Show News and Volunteer Sign Ups
The first opportunity for choir members to volunteer to work on the Manchester Fall Follies Talent Show was made available during the retreat. Chance Choir President Moe Parisien told the choir that it was expected that all choir members volunteer to work on the talent show in some capacity, just as work was required during the fall craft fairs several years ago. The talent show will be produced on Saturday, Nov. 8 in the Sanctuary and will be the choir's major fund raiser for the year. Tickets for the show will be distributed to choir members at rehearsal this Thursday night. All choir members will be expected to sell a minimum of four tickets. Married couples in the choir will be asked to sell a total of six tickets between them. Here are the volunteers who have signed up so far, along with the name and phone number for the supervisor of each work area. Persons who have signed up should contact the supervisor for details and work schedule. If you haven't signed up and see a job you like, call the supervisor to volunteer.

Future Chancel Choir Retreats -- Dates and Locations
Kevin told the choir that the Mercy Center in Town and Country has been booked for the annual Chancel Choir retreat starting in October of 2005. So far, no location has been selected for next year's retreat. The retreat will be held on the second weekend in October for the next three years so that it will not conflict with the annual Chapel Anniversary celebration. Next year, howver, Kevin has a conflict with the second weekend, so the retreat may be moved to late September. Several options for a location next year will be reviewed by choir officers in the next few weeks. Among the options would be a return to Dittmer, a local hotel, and a couple of other venues that Kevin has identified. The eventual return to Mercy Center in 2005 will be welcomed by members of the choir. That site provided the best combination of location, facilities and comfort.

Other Chancel Choir News Briefs:
Soprano Publishes Book That Teaches Good Customer Service

If you run a small business and need some advice on giving good customer service, you need look no further than the soprano section. Although the entire soprano section has been reputed to give good musical service, soprano June Van Klaveren has taken that a step further to include small businesses. She has written a book entitled "The Edge Up" which gives detailed advice on making customers happy. According to her promotional press release: "The reader will receive a deceptively simply message: Take good care of your customers and they'll take good care of you. The book is divided into six chapters that include such important topics as The Impact of Customer Service, Customer Service Secrets, Employees, Management and Customer Service, Real Life Customer Service Stories and Lessons, Conflicts and How to Handle Them, and Customer Service Techniques." June runs Compelling Communications, a solo freelance marketing communications practice for small businesses.

Please Leave The Perfume and Cologne Home on Sunday Mornings and Thursday Nights
After church this morning several choir members commented about the unusually potent amount of perfume and cologne in use in the loft. A number of people in the choir are allergic to various forms of fragrances. Besides the bass who notoriously goes into a loud sneezing fit after a quick whiff of some fragrances, others suffer from headaches and runny noses from fellow singers' perfume and cologne. Aside from the comic relief a loud honk can cause, the fact that more than a few singers are negatively affected by the fragrances can prevent the choir from doing its best and frustrate choir members who end up fighting the effects during rehearsals, worship and performances. So, please leave the perfume and cologne at home. That includes men who may be tempted to douse themselves with after shave and cologne before heading for church. Even a small amount can cause a problem. Bottom line: we'd rather take our chances with the odor you're trying to cover than add unwanted percussion to a beautiful anthem or have to fumble for Advil and a Kleenex during a rehearsal.

CHANCEL CHOIR UPDATE 9/26: Important Stuff
Only Women Sing In The Loft On Sunday, 9/28
Yes, men. You get Sunday off. Since its "women's Sunday" the beautiful, melodic voices of our sopranos and altos will provide the ultimate musical worship experience on Sunday. They will sing only at the 10:30 a.m. service. Men can sit in the balcony and critique the performance.

Talent Show Update -- We've Got 30 Acts And You'll Soon Be Asked To Help
That's right. So far we've got 30 acts on the playbill for the MUMC Fall Follies Talent Show set for Saturday night, Nov. 8. All of the acts performed for the "casting call" over the weekend and met for a performer's orientation meeting Thursday night before choir rehearsal. Director Bill Borger says, "We've got a show and I'm excited about it." The Talent Show production staff will meet next week and soon thereafter, many opportunities for helping with the production will be available for all members of the choir. Not the least of your responsibilities will be selling tickets. As with the Broadway show, you'll get four tickets to sell (six of you are a choir couple). We'll also need help with set building, ushering, the Patron party, house management, stage management, etc., etc. Since this is the choir's only fundraiser for the year, all members are expected to help -- even if you're not in an act. This will be the church event of the fall, if not the entire year.

Who Are Those New Members Anyway?
We've got 16 new members in the choir this fall. We're sure you've met all of them. But if you are curious about who they are, what they look like and what there interests are, there's now a New Member page posted in the "Member" section of the choir's Web site. There's photos of the new members and biographical information. More bio material will be added as soon as new members have filled out their "getting to know you" data sheet and returned it to Fran McMillian. Also, photos and contact information for all new members is now included in the Pictorial and Alphabetical directories on the Web site. New members, please check these directories to make sure the information is correct and accurate.

In case you haven't heard, we're returning to Fast Eddie's this Saturday for lunch. It's our September social outing. We'll leave from the trash dumpster in the church parking lot at 10 a.m. sharp and make the trip to Alton so we'll be at Fast Eddie's when they open for lunch. We'll take over one of their dining rooms. Maps will be provided. So far, we've got about 25 people going and there's plenty of room. There'll be a sign up circulating at choir rehearsal on Thursday night. In case you've never been to Fast Eddie's think excellent, cheap food and frosty, cold beverages. Half-pound hamburgers are 99 cents. Huge boiled shrimp are 29 cents each. And there's more food items from which to choose. It's one of our most popular choir outings. So join us -- sign up Thursday night. Unfortunately, no kids on this trip. You've got to be 21 to enter Fast Eddie's. For new choir members, we have a social event each month. Check the choir Web site for a complete schedule for this fall.

CHANCEL CHOIR UPDATE 9/16: Death In Chancel Choir Family
It is with sadness that we report the death of baritone Maurice Parisien's mother, Mary Tyminski, last night at a hospital in Bangor, Maine. Moe had just returned Sunday from spending a week with his mother who had been listed in critical condition. She had been in failing health for some time from complications of heart disease and pulmonary hypertension. Services are pending. Earlier this month, the Parisien family, including newborn twin granddaughters, spent a week in Maine with Moe's mother and his brother. Our prayers and thoughts are with the Moe and his family.

CHANCEL CHOIR UPDATE 9/12: Sing Two Worship Services This Sunday
No you won't be getting an email reminder every Friday that we sing on Sunday. However, since we've been changing the schedule a little this fall, we want to make sure you know to GET UP EARLY THIS SUNDAY. The Chancel Choir will be singing for BOTH the 9 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. services this Sunday, Sept. 14. Call time is 8:30 a.m. We hope you can join us for both services, if not please plan on singing for at least one. Sign in sheets to register your attendance on Sunday will be placed on the table near the door . Because of our size now, Sunday attendance is being recorded using the sign up sheets. See you Sunday.

CHANCEL CHOIR UPDATE 9/8: Talent Show Information
Talent Show Entry Forms are Due to the Director

The much anticipated and widely discussed MUMC Cabaret 2003: Fall Follies talent show, a Chancel Choir fundraiser set for Nov. 8, is just two months away and production work is now underway. In fact, if you are planning on entering the show or know someone in the church who is, the talent entry forms are due now to Bill Borger, show director. The casting call, a time for you or your group to show your stuff to the production staff, will be held on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 20 and 21. You need to let Bill know about your act by filling out a form and getting on the casting call schedule by calling or emailing him. Don't have a form? No problem. The forms are now available on the Chancel Choir Web site. In fact, a talent show information page has been added to the site and the forms are available there in several formats so you can download it, print it out, fill it out and contact Bill. You can log onto the choir Web site at www.mumcchancelchoir.org and click the link in the yellow box at the bottom of the home page or just click the link below to be taken directly to the talent show info page. Contact information for Bill is also included there. Please forward this information to anyone you know of who is planning to perform in the talent show.
http://www.mumchancelchoir.org/Talent%20Show%20Information.htm

Several Acts Are Already Rehearsing
Word on the street is that a number of talent show acts are in rehearsal now. We know of at least two quartets, a jazz band, a women's ensemble doing something they won't discuss, a couple of solos, and even rumors of an entry by the senior pastor. But, we need more acts than this. It's not too late to put together an entry or talk someone you know in the church into performing. The show will rival MUMY Revue talent shows of years gone by. Any member of the church family is eligible to perform. So talk this up among your friends. Participation is is not limited to choir members or music program participants. We're sure there is talent of all kinds out there in the congregation.

Talent Show Will Be Choir's Fund Raiser For The Year
The Fall Follies will be the choir's one big fund raiser for the year. That means we will need everyone to help, whether or not you are performing. All choir members will get an allotment of tickets to sell, just as we did with the Broadway concert last spring. But, we will also need help with other areas of the production. The show's production staff has already been working on planning and soon each area supervisor will be asking for help. It's your chance to get involved. Plan on investing the time you normally spend working on one of our big fundraising concert by helping with the Fall Follies. As you know, money raised from the concert will be used for our scholarships, choir expenses, and community outreach.

CHANCEL CHOIR UPDATE 8/28: Lion King/Cares and Concerns
Expanding Circle of Life Brings More Tickets For You

The birth of a new grandson has brought another opportunity to get some great seats to see the Lion King at the Fox. In a circle of life event ot its own, the arrival of Sean Everest Green (8 lb., 1oz./ 21 in.) in Richmond, Va., on Aug. 26 means John and Nancy Frederiksen will not be using their primo seats in the orchestra section for the show at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 6. John wants $55 each for the two tickets (row X, seats 30 & 32). If you want to see Simba and his friends, give John a call at 314-378-3160. He'll even deliver the tickets to your home. Oh, daughter Susan and son-in-law Brian are all doing well.

Like The Energizer Bunny, Our Choir Keeps Going and Going and Going
Did you ever wish someday you could be a member of a large choir -- maybe like the one in Salt Lake City? Well, your wish is rapidly coming true. While, we're not yet as big as that Utah troup, projections put our membership at well over 160 by Christmas. Right now we have 144 singers listed on our roll -- most are active. Traditionally we'll pick up 10 or so at the beginning of the year and Kevin says another 12 have expressed interest in joining us this fall. Add all of that up and you'll singing in a 166-voice choir. Pass that choir room furniture catalog. Remember, the first rehearsal of the new season begins at 7:30 p.m., on Thursday, Sept. 4. You may want to arrive early so you'll have a place to sit.

Pesky Viruses and Bogus Viruses Cause Concern
You may have read about some of those "worm" viruses effecting email recently. Several people in the choir have reported to the Webmaster that weird email messages, some even claiming to contain viruses, have suddenly appeared on their screens. In fact, some of them say they have come from my computer. That's not true, but unsettling just the same. The email worms can work their way into unprotected computers and take over email address directories. They then use addresses from previously received emails to generate new messages, some actually containing viruses, but most often not. If you get something like this, delete it. There's nothing in there you want to read anyway. Just so you'll know, the computer that originates the choir updates has only had two viruses in the past several years. One contained in a book manuscript from a client a few years ago and one sent to me a few weeks ago by the church office. In both cases, my virus protection software -- the software you should be running constantly on your computer-- caught and isolated the viruses. I also have a firewall for added protection to keep those pesky worm viruses from invading over my broadband connection. So, you can be reasonably certain -- knock on wood -- that messages from me or the choir are virus free. Then there's the "spam" problem. Spam is the name for all of that pesky junk email you get. Some Internet providers like AOL and Juno have instituted filtering programs that try to detect sources of spam. Since I frequently send out bulk emails to all of my 145 choir friends, I was put on the spammer list by AOL recently and if you have an AOL address, you were prevented from receiving any more messages from the choir. To work around this, the choir email updates, like this one, now originate from the server where our Web site is hosted in San Jose, Calif. This actually works better and quicker and allows me to generate update messages for you from any computer where I might be. Bottom line, delete suspicious email without opening any attachment, run antivirus software like Norton Antivirus constantly and make sure it updates itself daily, if you have Charter Pipeline or DSL and run it all the time, install a software firewall such as BlackIce to keep those intruders out, and if your Internet service provider blocks email you really want to get, complain loudly.

CHANCEL CHOIR UPDATE 8/20: Saturday Party Details
Choir Season Kickoff Party This Saturday, Aug. 23

The annual season kickoff party for Chancel Choir is this Saturday beginning at 6 p.m at the home of Sandy Wilmoth, 710 chancellor Heights Dr. in Manchester. Several people have asked about directions. Sandy’s home is easy to find. >From the corner of Manchester and Henry roads, go north on Henry until you reach Chancellor Heights Drive (the seventh street to the right at the end of a long wooden fence), turn right (east) and follow the street around to the left. (Watch the signs. You can only park on one side of the street and the Manchester police enjoy visiting the neighborhood.) In case you get lost, call 636-227-3144 and we’ll talk you in. This is a potluck -- that means bring some food. And a lawn chair would also be nice if you'd like to sit. This is also the time to bring a prospective choir member so they can see just what a fine group we are. See you Saturday.

The Lion King Is Calling and There's Tickets Available
If you've always wanted to see The Lion King live, up close and personal, here's your chance. Tenor Barb Bommarito has two primo tickets available for the Sunday matinee at 1 p.m. on Aug. 31. The seats are in the lower balcony, right center (section 4, row D, seats 122 and 124) at the Fox. The are $55 each. If your interested call Barb at 314-821-5534. Tell her you want to see Simba.

Bonnie Halls Is a Grandmother Again
Chloe Belle Halls, a granddaughter for Alto Bonnie Halls, was born to son Tim and his wife, Callie, yesterday at Missouri Baptist Medical Center. All are doing quite well, thank you.

First Rehearsal Is On September 4
In case your Palm Pilot or Blackberry is broken, remember the new choir season begins with rehearsal on Thursday night, Sept. 4 at 7:30 p.m. Same time, same place, same friendly faces.

Famed Composer Allen Pote Will Direct Choir In Spring Concert
Dust off the furniture, yet another church music super star is coming to Manchester to conduct us in a concert. This time the famed Allen Pote will conduct our spring concert, A Festival of Praise, at 7 p.m, Sunday, May 23. Pote has more than 300 compositions in print, including 12 musicals for children and youth, including "Technicolor Promise." You'll recognize his anthems: "On The Third day", "Many Gifts, One Spirit", A Jubilant Song", "Prayer of St. Frances" and "Love Comes From God".

CHANCEL CHOIR UPDATE 8/19: Death In Choir Family
We are saddened to report the death of Carleen Anderson' mother, Ruth Hewitt, last night in Horseheads, N.Y. She had suffered a fall a few weeks ago and was recovering from surgery to repair her broken leg when she went into congestive heart failure. Service arrangements are pending, but the funeral will likely be held Saturday. Carleen's husband, Jim, is leaving for New York this afternoon. Meanwhile, Carleen's father, also in failing health, is doing better now. In the midst of all this, the Andersons had a new grandson, Keaton, born last week to Carleen's daughter, Theresa, in Denver. And Jim's daughter, Susan, is expecting a child in Tampa, Fla., this week. Please keep the Andersons in your prayers.

CHANCEL CHOIR UPDATE 8/13: Surprise Farewell
Farewell Card Shower Set For Judi Burket at End of Year Party Aug. 23

As many of you may know, soprano Judi Burket is moving to Florida in early September. Judi has been a part of the Chancel Choir for more than 20 years. Much of that time was spent managing the choir's robes and she has always been willing to help out when the need arose. The choir is going to have a surprise card shower for her at the End of Year party at 6 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 23 at the home of Sandy Wilmoth. Plan on bringing a card for Judi or a small memento if you wish. Choir president Maurice Parisien will make the presentation. Because this is a surprise, Judi will not receive this email. Please encourage her to attend the party.

Bruce Brader Has Throat Surgery
Tenor Bruce Brader underwent surgery Tuesday, Aug. 12, to correct a throat problem. The procedure, called a Septoplasty/Turbinate Resection for you medical junkies, will help him breath better and will greatly improve his snoring, wife Debbi is quick to point out. It was an outpatient procedure and he is recuperating at home.

Mark your calendar's for the Chancel Choir's annual fall kickoff party at 6 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 23, to be held again this year at the home of Sandy Wilmoth, 710 Chancellor Heights Dr. in Manchester. As always, the party will be a pot luck and is a good opportunity for you to invite potential new choir members to meet us. Directions to Sandy's house are published in the August edition of the Chancel Times.

Questions About Broadway Concert DVDs and Videotapes
Several people have asked me questions about their video recordings of the 100 Years of Broadway Concert. I produced only the audio recordings on CD. The video recordings, offered on both DVD and VHS tape, were made by Will Brinkhorst, who works at the church part-time. He may be reached by calling the church office at 636-394-7506.

CHANCEL CHOIR UPDATE 7/31: Chancel Times Is In The Mail

The August, Fall Kickoff, issue of the Chancel Times was mailed Thursday afternoon and should arrive in your mailbox on Friday or Saturday. You'll want to rush to the mailbox and quickly open the white 6x9 envelope quickly, because you'll learn things in the Chancel Times not available anywhere else. For instance, the Chancel Times will answer these questions:

Which choir member nearly drowned this summer?
How much money was made on the 100 Years of Broadway Concert?
Who attacked the Chancel Choir Queen and what was the nature of her injuries?
Why will Santa not be attending the annual holiday party this year?
Where did the term "Operation G" come from?
How many little meat balls did Patron ticket holders eat before the Broadway concert?
What does this year's scholarship winner want to do with her life?

All of this information, plus five pages of photos taken during the Broadway concert, a full treasurer's report, an invitation to the Fall Kickoff Party on Aug. 23, a listing of next year's choir schedule, information about next year's tour to Indianapolis, details on the Fall Talent Show, and a full page of gossip complete with photos.

CHANCEL CHOIR UPDATE 7/30: Death In The Choir Family
Death In The Chancel Choir Family
It is with sadness that we report the death of baritone Jim Descher's mother-in-law, Cleona Martin, this morning in Chesterfield following a long illness. Private services for the family are planned. Our thoughts and prayers are with Jim and Joanne.

Computer Virus Alert For Chancel Members
In the past few days an email based "worm" virus has been making the rounds of computers communicating with the church office. The virus attacks Microsoft Outlook and Internet Explorer email programs and resends messages to address books listed the infected computer. The church is aware of the problem, but you may not be aware you have the virus. The only defense is to run an antivirus program such as Norton Antivirus on your computer all of the time and update the program frequently. I run Norton Antivirus with real-time updating to guard against viruses and protect email messages I send to you and to clients. The software does work -- Norton Antivirus caught this virus as it arrived in a message from the church. If you have an antivirus program, update it today and scan your computer. If you don't, get one by download at www.symantec.com or purchase a copy at your favorite store. Viruses can be devastating to your computer, destroying your hard drive and everything that is stored on it, and they can be a nuisance to everyone you send email messages to.

CHANCEL CHOIR UPDATE 7/25:
Note From Josh
Chancel Choir Family:
I just never thought that I would be 25 and would bury my dad. The news of my father's sudden heart attack last Thursday completely caught me off guard and has changed my world. My mother, sister and I kept wanting to wake up from this horrible dream, but I finally have realized that this is the new reality.

My dad was 56. He worked out every day, ran two miles a day, and ate properly. He went to the doctor all the time, and could tell you his cholesterol level (and any other health statistic) at any moment. He had done this since overcoming cancer in 1981. I equate health and fitness with my dad. But heart disease runs in my family, and all the men on my father's side have died in their mid-50's of a heart attack. My dad did everything possible to overcome genetics, but just couldn't.

He was a great father to me and my sister and a wonderful husband to my mom, which is amazing since he didn't exactly have the best example of these two roles as a child. My parents had been married 35 years, and their anniversary is in two weeks. He was an honest businessman and a leader in the community and church. I have a very close family, and at times like this, I'm very thankful for that.

Knowing my church family is there for me means so much, especially since I have no other family. My parents enjoyed their Manchester experiences so much -- hearing us in Nashville last year, hearing the CDs (especially of the Hal Hopson concert), and being here for Easter just a few months ago.

Thank you all for the prayers, thoughts, support, flowers and donations to the church. It's going to be a difficult time for a while, and I appreciate your continued prayers for my family -- especially for my mom.

CHANCEL CHOIR UPDATE 7/23: Memorial Donations For Josh Hayes' Father

The Chancel Choir has made a $25 contribution to the building fund of Josh Hayes' family's church in memory of his father, Tom Hayes, who died last week. The family requested that contributions be made instead of sending flowers. Choir members who would like to make personal contributions should make checks payable to the Walnut Street Church of Christ and send them to the Dickson Funeral Home, 209 East College Street, Dickson, Tenn. 37055.

CHANCEL CHOIR UPDATE 7/17: Death In The Choir Family

Done Something Amazing This Summer? Share Your Experience
With Your Choir Friends

With the temperature and humidity both hovering in the mid-90s, thoughts quickly turn to fall. For many, the thought of returning to regular choir rehearsals and anxious worrying about the next concert brings a fond tear to the eye. In anticipation of that rapidly approaching scenario, we will soon be publishing a late summer, back-to-choir edition of the widely reputed Chancel Times. We know you've been having fun out there. We know you've been on vacations, seen amazing things, done unimaginable deeds, and experienced exceptional stuff. We'd like to share some of that with your choir buddies. If you have an interesting, funny, embarrassing, amazing or just unusual story to tell about what you've been up to this summer -- or what someone else in choir has been up to -- send word back to me by replying to this email message. Photos are also welcome and encouraged. I'll need to hear from you on or before next Friday, July 18.

Broadway Audio CDs Remain Unclaimed -- Arrange to Get Them Soon
The joyous sounds of the 100 Years of Broadway concert are living on in the cars, living rooms and basements of countless choir members and their groupies. CHANCEL CHOIR UPDATE 6/27: Note For The Choir President
Chancel Choir:
Let me start by saying “Sorry for the short notice”.

I’m looking for some help from our church family. The company I work with, Marketing Direct, Inc., has just agreed to take on an international business exchange student in the International Business Internship Exchange in Partnership with Missouri. The intern, Benn Precious, a British student will be working directly with me on a special marketing assignment from July 1-August 28, 2003.

The students come to Missouri on a J-1 visa and are not paid here. Host families provide room and board for the students. We are looking for a host family or families to cover the eight weeks that Benn will be in the country. A host family can agree to a four-week stint in either July or August, or agree to take Benn for the entire eight weeks. Basically, we need families who are available to provide a room for the student and all their meals. Transportation to and from work would be great, but if the host family was not able to provide transportation, we can make other arrangements.

I’ve included in the base of this e-mail a little background on Benn Precious. I’m told that Benn is a very outgoing and pleasant individual with excellent social skills. If anyone is interested in hosting Benn for four or eight weeks, please contact me at the numbers listed below or call my home at (636) 227-8655.

Thanks for the help in getting the word out.
Moe Parisien

Chancel Choir Choreographer Laura Ferree Is Sinking With The Titanic In August
Once and future Chancel Choir choreographer Laura Ferree of 100 Years of Broadway fame is returning to the stage this summer as a first class passenger in the Spotlight Community Theater production of "Titanic: The Musical". Unfortunately, Laura drowns as the ship sinks, but not before she performs as the lead dancer in one of the show's big production numbers. The show will be presented at the theater in Marquette High School at 8 p.m. on Aug. 1, 2, 7, 8, and 9 and also at 2 p.m. on Aug. 3 and 10. (Laura's daughter is also performing in the Spotlight production of "Oliver!" this summer.) Information on obtaining tickets is posted on the Chancel Choir Web site's new Community Events section. See below.

Community Events Calendar and Chancel Choir's Favorite Recipe Sections
Added to Web Site

Two new informational sections have been added to the Chancel Choir's Web site. A Community Events Calendar is available to post information on events or performances either involving choir members or of interest to choir members. You can reach the Community Events Calendar by entering the Member Section of the site and going to Choir Information then click on Community Calendar. Anyone with information about an event to post on the calendar should email it to: garyford@fordcom.net

As a high-tech answer to an age old question "How did you make that?" we've added a recipe section to the Choir's Web site. There was such good cooking at the choir's recent party, several people asked about circulating recipes for favorite dishes brought to the event. Rather than endlessly sending emails round and round, let's post the choir's favorite recipes on the Web site. You can find the Recipe Section by going to the Member Section of the site and looking at Choir Information, then click on Recipe Section. Right now Sue Woolweavers famous, outstanding, high-impact guacamole is posted there. I'm sure many more additions will follow. If you have a recipe for the section, email it to garyford@fordcom.net

CHANCEL CHOIR UPDATE 6/13: Group Outing - Godspell At The MUNY
Chancel Choir Will Attend Godspell at the MUNY on Saturday, July 26
It's summer. And while we aren't singing or getting ready for a big concert, we can have fun. Kevin said, "Let's go see Godspell at the MUNY." So, the choir's social director has arranged a group outing. The choir will attend Godspell at the MUNY on Saturday night, July 26. (Some may have heard that the night was Sunday. That's changed -- It's now SATURDAY.) If you want to go, you must act now.

Here's the details: We have a block of 60 tickets reserved in Terrace A, Rows A-M, for that night. Cost of the tickets is $20 each. The 60 tickets will be offered to choir members and their spouses/families on a first-come, first-served basis. Since this is summer and the choir is not meeting and there is a substantial amount of money involved in getting the group to the theater, the social director is instituting some rules and regulations. Check your calendar and if you'd like to join us, read the directions below.

Here's the ticket acquisition process: If you'd like to go with us to the MUNY to see Godspell, follow the steps below. Any questions may be directed to the choir's social director, Sandy Ford, at 636-227-5749.

Step One -- To reserve tickets for you, your spouse or family, determine how many tickets you want and reply to this email or send a new email to: garyford@fordcom.net This initial message will hold the tickets for you until they are paid for. Your name will be added to the list in the order the email is received. If more than 60 tickets are requested, a waiting list will be started. (FYI -- There are four people in the choir who do not have email. We will call them. If you don't check your email often, sorry that's a whole other problem.)

Step Two -- You must pay for your tickets in advance to complete your reservation. Mail a check made payable to SANDY FORD for the total amount of your ticket order ($20 for each ticket) on or before July 1. Mail your check to: Sandy Ford, 421 Dana Meadows Lane, Ballwin, MO 63021. The check must be received on or before July 1 to complete your reservation for Godspell at the MUNY. Let me repeat that: The check must be received on or before July 1 to complete your reservation for Godspell at the MUNY. At the end of the day on July 1 any tickets reserved by email with no check received will be offered to anyone who may be on the waiting list. Excess tickets not reserved, if any, will be returned to the MUNY. Please note: This is an absolute deadline. No last minute additions. No cancellations. No late payments.

Step Three -- Your tickets will be sent or delivered to you prior to the show. No you won't have to find the Fords in the parking lot or under a big tree in Forest Park. You'll have your ticket in hand. Transportation to the theater is your deal. Food before and after the show is also your deal.

This will be a great event and a lot of fun for the choir. Kevin is excited about the production. If he's excited, then we're excited. So check your calendar, send your reservation, mail your money and plan on a great time at the MUNY on Saturday, July 26. Show time is 8:15 p.m. The MUNY is located in Forest Park for those of you who may be new to St. Louis.
