UPDATE 5/21: Very Important Stuff to Know
Special Broadway Group Rehearsals Scheduled for Thursday Night
Chancel Choir rehearsal this Thursday night, May 22, will concentrate
on group and soloist work for the 100 Years of Broadway Concert as follows:
6 to 7 p.m. ~ "Willkommen," "Bugle Boy" and "Ol'
Man"
7 to 7:30 p.m. ~ All soloists (solo, duets, trios, etc.)
7:30 to 9:30 p.m. ~ All small groups will work during rehearsal
Pictorial
Directory of Chancel Choir Is Now Available On the Web Site
Who is that new person in the second row? What does so and so look like?
Now you can easily answer these questions by looking at the Chancel Choir's
new pictorial directory on the Web site. At the request of Bob Klebe,
a directory has been developed over the past few weeks. We've been able
to collect about 95 percent of the individual photos and will continue
working to get all of them soon. The directory is located in the Member
section and is divided into four singing parts: soprano, alto, tenor and
bass so the individual directory pages will load quicker. The pictorial
directory contains individual photos and contact information for the "active"
members of the choir who are attending regularly. The alphabetical listing
will remain on the site and will also include the addresses of those still
on the role, but may not be attending regularly. Please check to make
sure the correct photo is next to your name and the contact info is correct.
If not, let me know. Please note: some of the photos are marginal, I know,
and will be retaken as soon as possible. The pictures were either extracted
from the group shots took a few weeks ago, individual shots taken as available,
or from the photo archive for previous editions of Chancel Times. If your
photo needs to be retaken, see me. I'll usually have a camera in my pocket.
Also note: the pictorial directory is located in the "private"
section of the Web site and is password protected, should that be a concern
to anyone.

UPDATE 5/7: May Social Outing/Broadway Ticket Sales
May Social Event Will Be a Spring Movie Night on Saturday, May 17
The choir's social director has discovered that we're a very busy bunch
in May. Due to schedule conflicts with the Memorial Day holiday and the
big 100 Years of Broadway show rehearsal, she has put the Picnic in Faust
Park on hold for the time being. Instead, we'll go to the movies with
dinner following on Saturday, May 17. This time we'll go to the West Olive
Theaters on Olive Boulevard in Creve Coeur on Saturday evening, May 17.
Pick your favorite movie showing in the "rush hour" time frame
-- 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. Then join us after your movie for dinner at the Soup
or Salad restaurant just next door to the east in the Dierberg's Heritage
Plaza, also on Olive Boulevard. There are some great movies about to open
or showing now, so there'll be plenty to pick from. And a reminder: We'll
again have weekly Thursday night dinners this summer beginning in June.
More details will be provided later.

UPDATE 4/29: City Hall Concert / Cares and Concerns
World Day of Prayer Singing at Manchester City Hall This Thursday
The choir will sing a patriotic song in front of the Manchester
City Hall at 7 p.m. this Thursday night. The City Hall is a gray and white
Victorian building located directly south across Manchester Road from
the Church. Kevin would like us there by 6:45 p.m. to warm up. We will
then sing at 7 p.m. and return to the church for rehearsal. There are
several logistical options. There is no parking at the City Hall. However,
you can park in the lot next door to the east in front of Office Depot
and walk next door to City Hall. Or you can park in the church lot and
walk down the hill and across Manchester Road to City Hall. (Look both
ways and step quickly.)
Summer Group
Outing to Godspell at the MUNY
Plans are underway to organize a group event to attend a performance of
Godspell at the MUNY this July. Dates, times, costs, and other details
are yet to be worked out by Kevin and the choir's social director. We'll
let you know as soon as we know.
Wax Museum
Was Life Changing Experience
For the 18 people who toured the Laclede's Landing Wax Museum Saturday,
things may never seem the same -- at least from a tourism point of view.
As them about what they saw there. The group then feasted on chicken at
Hodak's and topped off the day with a stop at Ted Drewes on the way home.
We joined two complete wedding parties at the custard stand and ran into
several of our professional musicians on their way to play at the Fox
for the Full Monty.

UPDATE 4/11: Very Important Stuff
We Sing Early This Sunday
The Chancel Choir will sing at the 9 a.m. service this Sunday,
April 13 (Palm Sunday). Warmup is at 8:30 a.m. Introit: "Shout To

Trip To Laclede's
Landing Wax Museum Is On
The Laclede's Landing Wax Museum has reopened and they're expecting us
at 3 p.m., Saturday, April 26. Following the museum tour, we'll head to
Hodak's on Gravois at 5 p.m. for a chicken dinner at the city's best chicken
restaurant according to the just published River Front Times dining survey.
This is a family outing, so kids are welcome. But, we'll need to know
if you are joining us so we can let the restaurant know. A sign up sheet
will be available at Thursday's rehearsal.
Choir Officers
and Church Music Team Review Finances
Choir officers, members of the church's music ministry team, the church
treasurer and church administrator met last night before rehearsal to
discuss negative balances in some Chancel Choir and music program accounts.
Both groups are developing plans to make up the deficits. As Kevin reported
at last night's rehearsal, the bottom line is that during the past year
we spent more money then we had. There has been some concern expressed
that a story about the status of the choir's treasury in last week's edition
of the Chancel Times choir newsletter may have led some readers to believe
that the church office staff and church treasurer were in some way responsible
for the deficits or had contributed to the problem. This is not true and
has never been a concern. In fact, Kimberly Smith, church treasurer, prepared
a very detailed analysis of the account information for last night's meeting
and also provided a helpful explanation of the current status of the accounts.
We regret if any misunderstanding resulted from the newsletter.

UPDATE 3/19: Cares and Concerns/Other Stuff
Chancel Times Edition Is In Production; Gossip Is Needed
The next edition of the choir's newsletter, the Chancel Times, is in preparation
and that means we need your help and your gossip. If you know of some

interesting experiences, recent trips, family additions, etc., etc. --
please send them to me by responding to this email by next Monday.
100 Years
of Broadway Concert Publicity Underway
We're hoping for a big crowd at our Broadway concert and to make that
happen, the choir's marketing team is preparing a publicity blitz for
later this spring. Meanwhile, I have placed a "playbill" on
the choir's Web site for your use. There is also a "click link"
on the main page to reach the concert information. You can tell your friends
to visit our Web site, send them the link to the playbill page in an email
or print out the playbill page and use as a handout. Once ticket sales
begin next month, I will put a link on the Web site for people to use
to reserve tickets on line. Our Web site is at www.mumcchancelchoir.org.
Remember, we're having a 100 Years of Broadway listening party during
rehearsal tomorrow night. There'll even be popcorn.
More Audio
Samples Added to Web Sites
A few more audio samples of recent choir performances have been added
to the choir's Web site, both in the public and member sections. Also,
high quality digital MP3 files of the choir and other church music groups
have been posted on the church's main Web site. That's www.manchesterumc.org.
Check them all out.
Fast Eddies
Trip This Saturday
There's still time to sign up for the trip to Fast Eddie's on Saturday.
A signup will be available at rehearsal tomorrow night. Those making the
trip should meet at 10 a.m. Saturday in the church parking lot next to
the trash dumpster. We'll caravan to Alton and be there when the place
opens. Shrimp, here we come.
Cares and
Concerns -- The Shelton's Grandson
Charlott and Richard Shelton received some bad news while visiting their
son and his family in Florida this week. Their infant grandson was diagnosed
with pyloric stenosis which is the narrowing of part of the stomach (the
pylorus) that leads into the small intestines. Their grandson and daughter-in-law
are enroute to St. Louis today and will be seen by a specialist at Children's
Hospital this afternoon. Surgery is required to fix the problem and the
family has been assured that it isn't a big deal and recovery will be
quick. The Sheltons are asking for prayers from the choir family. If you
would like to learn more about pyloric stenosis go to www.pedisurg.com/PtEduc/Pyloric_Stenosis.htm.

UPDATE 3/11: March Social Event/Concert Audio Samples
Wax Museum Remodeling Brings Quick Move To Fast Eddie's
A face lift going on at the St. Louis Wax Museum this month has brought
a change of social plans for Saturday, March 22. Instead of glaring at
wax figures, we'll be chomping on shrimp at Fast Eddie's in Alton. That's
right. Sandy Ford, the choir's social director, made a quick move to "Plan
B" when she learned the museum won't reopen until April. The trip
to Fast Eddie's in September was so popular, many demanded it be placed
on this year's calendar too. Even though more than 40 people made the
trip last time, many were unable to attend, so a repeat adventure across
the river was schedule for May. But now, we're headed to Fast Eddie's
for lunch on Saturday, March 22. Here's the plan: We'll meet at the church
in the parking lot next to that impressive trash dumpster at 10 a.m. and
caravan across the Mississippi to Alton. We'll provide maps and encouragement.
We'll be there when the place opens and move into one of the smaller dining
rooms. Since we'll have a room to ourselves, smoke should be no problem.
There will be a sign-up sheet at the next two rehearsals, or you can reply
to this email to reserve your spot on the trip.
In case you're new
or don't know what Fast Eddie's is all about, here's the story. Just across
the Clark Bridge in Alton, Fast Eddie's is a tavern/sports bar known far
and wide for its excellent, cheap food. Half pound hamburgers for $1,
giant peel and eat shrimp for 25 cents each, steak on a stick for $1.75.
You get the idea. It's heaven. And there's plenty to drink. You have to
be 21 to get into Fast Eddie's, so kids will need to sit this trip out.
For you trivia buffs, Fast Eddie's was build in the 1930's by Anheuser
Busch back when the brewery could own its own retail establishments. Some
problem with antitrust or fair trade or something lawerly forced the brewery
to get rid of its taverns. So, Fast Eddie's past into private hands and
the folklore of the area. We'll have a great time.
Now You Can
Listen To The Choir On Your Computer
Wonder what we sounded like at the Hal Hopson concert? Well, you can take
a quick listen on your computer. Three short samples of our performance
have been posted on the choir's Web site for your listening pleasure.
The CD containing the entire concert will be ready soon, but if you can't
wait, go to the Member Section of the Web site, then Notes, then Choir
Information. You'll see the three files there to click on. If you've purchased
your computer in the last five years, you should have a sound card. Recent
versions of Navigator and Explorer will allow you to listen to audio files
in MP3 format. If you need player software for MP3 files, it's available
for download free from several sources. Give it a try and let me know

UPDATE 3/3: Important Information
Recording of Hal Hopson Concert
Last night's Hymn Festival concert with Hal Hopson was recorded and CDs
will be available soon. There will be a signup sheet at choir rehearsal
Thursday night, or you may reply to this email to order a recording for
you and your relatives. There are very few recordings of our choir singing
hymns, so this is your big chance to add to your musical library.
Hal Hopson
Was Very Impressed With Us
Our visiting composer was very impressed with our choir and our director.
During a dinner stop at Applebees following last night's concert, he told
those gathered around the table that he has not performed his Festival
of Hymns concert with a better choir. He also said he has never had a
performance where all the dramatic readings were memorized and performed
in character. "This is a wonderful choir and you have an excellent
director. You are very lucky," Hopson said. He says he has conducted
his hymn festival about 30 times with choirs usually numbering about 30
persons. He has also performed the work with combined choirs made up of
choirs from several churches.
It was also a night
of firsts of another sort for Hopson. "I have never had a coughing
spell like that while conducting. Never. And I am truly embarrassed,"
he said. During the performance, Hopson began coughing and couldn't stop.
One of the trumpet players gave him a cup of water, but that didn't help.
Finally, as he began to turn read, Larry Dietzel went off stage and reported
the situation to Kevin. A bottle of water was sent in with the escort
that helped blind "Fanny Crosby" out on stage. Fortunately,
the coughing subsided. "And the choir didn't miss a beat during all
of that," he smiled.
Proficiency
Test and Birthdays Added To Choir Web Site
A couple of new features have been added to the choir's Web site. A listing
of choir member birthdays was posted this morning. The list is presented
in both alphabetical order and by month. Fear not, the year of everyone's
birth has been omitted to protect the innocent. If your name and birthday
is missing, it probably means you haven't turned your information sheet
in to Fran McMillian. You can send your birthday info to the Webmaster
by clicking on the link at the top of the birthday list. Another interesting
item now on the Web site is a choir proficiency test found by Jim Descher.
Take the test and see where you stack up as a choir member. You can find
these features in the "Member" section of the Web site under
Notes in Choir Information.

UPDATE 2/14: All-Church Talent Show Planned
Chancel Choir To Produce All-Church Talent Show
Dust off your top hats and dig out that sheet music, because
the talent search has begun. The Chancel Choir officers gave the go ahead
last night to produce an all-church talent show this fall as a fund raiser.
The plan, developed by the choir's marketing team, calls for a major talent
production in early fall as a fund raiser for the choir's scholarship
and expense funds. Bill Borger will serve as executive producer for the
event and will be assisted by members of the marketing team and others
interested in helping. While some details remain to be worked out, plans
call for a talent show in the Sanctuary in the spirit of yesteryear's
MUMY Review. That talent show was produced several years in the late 80s
and early 90s in Old Fellowship Hall as a fund raiser for the church's
youth program. Plans for this year's production call for auditions --
open to anyone in the church -- to occur in late summer. The show will
feature a live combo, local celebrity judges to add an element of "American
Idol" to the event, and a reception to greet the talent following
the show. The choir will make money by selling tickets to the event and
the marketing team is expecting a sellout. You'll hear more about the
talent production later this spring. But, its not to early to start practicing
those piano solos, dramatic readings, magic acts, vocal solos, stand up
comedy, baton twirling or anything else you can do. Stay tuned.
Taste of The
Choir Cook Book Planned
If a talent show wasn't enough, the choir will also publish a cookbook
in the fall featuring the absolute best receipts of the choir's talented
cooks. The book will provide some fun for the choir and serve as an opportunity
to raise money for the scholarship and activity funds. Plans developed
by the choir's marketing team call for the book to be available in time
for Christmas. The book will also feature short stories and anecdotes
about the favorite receipts. Entries will be collected using the choir's
Web site to cut down on production time. So start sifting through your
receipt files now. A call for submissions will come in late spring. Barb
Barrett and Gary Ford have agreed to chair the cook book project. June
Van Klaveren will be in charge of production. Additional help will be
recruited.
100 Years
Of Broadway Promotion Plans Underway
Plans for promoting the June Broadway concert are under way also. In addition
to advance ticket sales and the ususal publicity, several "field
trips" featuring small groups singing Broadway tunes are planned
to promote the show. Stay tuned for details.

Who Were Those
Other Top 10 Winners?
After Kevin was named one of the Top 10 choir directors in the country

did to qualify for the honor. The National Religious Music Foundation
recently published a newsletter listing and describing the winners and
their music ministries. If you're curious, the newsletter is posted on
our choir's Web site. Look for it in the Member section under Notes.
These Email

As you know, from time to time we use email Chancel Choir Updates to let
you know about important stuff going on. All of the past Chancel Choir

UPDATE 1/21: Movie Night This Saturday
Movie Night This Saturday Evening
Back by popular demand, Movie Night is the Choir's January social
tradition. It works like this. Plan on attending a Rush Hour (late afternoon)
show at the Des Peres Cine and then join us at the Steak 'N Shake at Manchester
and Mason roads following your movie (in the 7 to 8 p.m. time frame).
We're not going to the movies as a group, so you can see any movie you
want. Here's a suggestion: the film version of the Broadway musical Chicago
is playing at the Des Peres Cine on two screens. That would certainly
be a possibility for a fine musical group like ours since we're planning
a Broadway concert later this year. But there are plenty of other choices
too. We'll hook up at the Steak 'N Shake to discuss our cinematic experience.
M&M Dinner
Help Sign Up
If you're new and wonder what in the world this M & M dinner thing
is about, here's the story. Each Wednesday evening, the church serves
a dinner in Fellowship Hall before the Wednesday evening education program
and ministry meetings, hence the name M&M (Meals and Ministry). The
dinner is open to anyone and only costs $4 (except Prime Rib night which
also happens to be the night we are helping), you might drop by sometime.
The dinner is cooked and staffed by volunteers, but occasionally groups
in the church help prepare, serve and clean up. Last February, the choir
helped with a Wednesday night dinner and we're going to do the same thing
this year. We'll need some help with preparation in the afternoon, serving
between 5:15 and 6:30 and then some help with clean up after. Soprano
Cece Spatola is in charge of coordinating the event and will have a sign
up sheet at rehearsal Thursday night. It's fun, not too much work, a great
way to get to know people in the choir, and you don't have to know how
to cook -- just grin and look busy.
Christmas
Concert Recordings
If you ordered a CD of the Dec. 15 Christmas concert, please pick it up
at rehearsal Thursday night. If you didn't order one and would like one,
or would like more, please reply to this email and I'll bring them Thursday
night. If you picked yours up, but haven't paid, well that would be nice
too.

UPDATE 1/16: Cares and Concerns
Fire Distroys Plant Where Ernie Fair Works
The fire on this morning's news at Diversified Foam Products, Branch and
Hall St. north of the Landing, was where Ernie Fair, husband of soprano
Karen Fair, works. Everyone in the building got out safely, but the plant
is a total loss. Although the owner is looking for an alternate location
and equipment, it will likely be some time before Ernie is back at work.
Ernie began working at the plant just a few months ago after being downsized
at another job last year
CHANCEL CHOIR UPDATE 1/14: Social Events/Cares and Concerns
Regular Choir Rehearsal Resumes This Thursday, January 16
We return to the groove this Thursday at 7:30 p.m. Come early and
bring a friend.
Spring Social Events Are Announced - Mark Your Calendars
Exploring new stuff is the theme for this spring's social calendar. We'll
have one event each month that involves doing something fun and eating
-- emphasis on the eating part. Details and signups will be provided prior
to the event. In some cases, some money in advance will be needed. Here's
the line up:
> Saturday, January 25 - Movie Night
Join us for a movie and dinner. Pick out a "Rush Hour" show
of your choice at the Des Peres Cine than it's dinner at the Steak N'
Shake on Manchester Road near Mason Road.
> Saturday, February 22 - Bowling and Dinner
Bowl a few games with us at Lakeside Lanes on Daugherty Ferry Road at
Big Bend then it's off to dinner at the Old Country Buffet on Manchester
Road.
> Saturday, March 22, 3 p.m. - Leclede's Landing Wax Museum
You only thought you knew everything there is in St. Louis. We'll tour
the home of the haunted wax museum at 720 N. Second Street. There have
more than 180 authentically costumed wax figures from London including
monsters from the silver screen, presidents, medieval tortures, movie
stars, royalty, world leaders and religious figures. And, if that's not
enough, we'll go to one of St. Louis' landmark restaurants for dinner.
Hodak's at 2100 Gravois Road. They're famous for their chicken.
> Saturday, April 26 - Picnic in Faust Park
We'll spend the afternoon touring the Butterfly House and Old Carousel
in Faust Park then gather for a barbecue box picnic lunch. Plus, there
will be a special balloon launch following the picnic. Event times will
be announced later.
> Saturday, May 17 - Lunch at Fast Eddy's Bonn Aire in Alton
Back by popular demand. More than 40 of us made the trip in September
and many more were disappointed they couldn't join us. Now, we're going
back. We'll leave the church parking lot at 10:30 a.m. and make the drive
to Alton for the cheapest, finest food anywhere. Shrimp by the dozen for
25 cents each, half-pound hambergers for 99 cents, amazing chicken and
anything you want to drink.
> Saturday, June 21 - Grant's Farm and Sweet Tomatoes
Spend a pleasant afternoon at Grant's Farm then join us at Sweet Tomatoes
on Watson Road in Crestwood. Second only to the St. Louis Zoo for exotic
animals and fun exhibits, Grant's Farm is a family delight. Then it's
on to Sweet Tomatoes, one of the best salad and pasta bars in the city.
A complete calendar will be distributed at the rehearsal Thursday. Additional
details are available on the Chancel Choir's Web site at www.mumcchancelchoir.org
on the Social Calendar page. User ID: mumsinger Password: purplerobe.
Questions may be directed to Sandy Ford, the choir's social director,
at 636-227-5749.
New Parents
Soprano Kim Schull and husband Jerry are proud parents of a five-year-old
boy named Jesse. The new Schull addition is joining their family this
week. He was in church Sunday and seemed quite happy with everybody and
we know his parents are. Congratulations!
Rev. Dean
Wilson's Mother Dies
Dean Wilson's mother passed away last week. She was 99 years old and in
failing health.

CHANCEL CHOIR UPDATE
12/21 -- Concert Recordings/Christmas Eve
I am going
to work on finishing the CDs of last Sunday's Christmas concert nextweek.
The recording is very good and the performance is excellent. This will
be a good CD to keep and play for next Christmas. If you did not sign
up for one Thursday night and would like one, please reply to this email
and tell me how many you want. Still the same low price of $10. I'll have
them finished when we return in January. I also have CDs of the Coventry
Christmas dinner concert available.
Chancel Choir Web
Site Directory
Take a few
seconds and check the directory on the Chancel Choir's Web site.
Let me know
if your address, phone number or email address is wrong -- or if you've
been left off the list. I've made the changes given to me this week and
the list has been updated. Reach the Chancel Choir Web site at: www.mumcchancelchoir.org.
Go to the "member"
section and enter the following: User ID: mumsinger Password: purplerobe
Christmas Eve Service
The Chancel
Choir sings at the 9 p.m. service on Christmas Eve (that would be Tuesday
night). Call time is 8:30 p.m. If you have visiting relatives who would
like to sing with us, bring them along -- we'll loan them a robe.
Merry Christmas
to all and to all a Good Night.
CHANCEL CHOIR UPDATE
12/17: Virus Alert
Two people have reported this morning that there are currently email
messages being exchanged between choir members that contain a virus in
an attachment. It is important to remember that 99 percent of the email
viruses effect only Microsoft Explorer or Microsoft Outlook. If you use
either of these to read your email or for your browser, it is very important
that you have a virus protection program, such as Norton Antivirus, on
your computer and running at all times to filter email viruses. If you
don't, be very careful of what attachments you open and more importantly,
what attachments you send to others. If you are in an office environment
with a network, you're local server most likely has a virus filter running.
I would recommend that you scan any unknown attachments with your virus
protection software before you send them to others. If you are using Netscape
for your browser, there is little chance that the virus will effect you.
CHANCEL CHOIR UPDATE
12/14: CHANCEL CHOIR NOW HAS ITS OWN WEB SITE
The chancel choir now has its own, exclusive Web site separate from
the church's Web site.
The Chancel
Choir Web site is located at: www.mumcchancelchoir.org
To enter the
site's member section you'll need these:
User ID: mumsinger
Password: purplerobe
You'll notice
the choir Web site has two sections. A public section and a members' section.
The public section includes pages that introduce the choir, describe who
we are, provide a schedule of events/performances, list choir officers,
and post recent news about the choir. The members' section is password
protected and currently includes a member directory, electronic files
of recent editions of the Chancel Times, a section for posting rehearsal
notes and other stuff Kevin would like us to have access to, and a section
for posting bulletins when there is a need. There are also links to some
choral and vocal Web sites you'll find interesting.
I designed the
site to be simple and quick loading for any type of browser or computer.
Look through it as soon as you have a minute. Let me know if you have
problems or suggestions.
Also, let me know if there are corrections or omissions to the member
directory. There is a linkat
the bottom of the directory list to reach me with changes and additions.
I do not have telephone numbers or current email addresses for several
new members of the choir. Check your entry and send me any needed updates.
I will also add them to the Chancel Choir email notification list.
I put this Web site
together because I felt the choir needed its own site that could be quickly
and efficently updated and would be devoted entirely to information Chancel
Choir members would need and find interesting. It will also provide another
method of outreach for the Chancel Choir's music ministry. It is not intended
to compete with the church's main Web site.
The Chancel Choir
Web site will not replace the Chancel Times, email notices or the choir's
emergency phone tree. It is intended to be another method of communication
for the choir. Of course, we realize that not all choir members have access
to the Internet or email. However, there are lots of possibilities for
ways to use this site and Kevin is already thinking about some ideas.
Enjoy.
CHANCEL CHOIR UPATE
12/05: Shhh! Fran McMillian's 60th Anniversary
Next Thursday, Dec. 12, is alto Fran McMillian's 60th wedding anniversary.
When you think about it, this is pretty amazing. Some days I can't even
count to 60 or sit still long enough to watch 60 minutes. Her wedding
happened before there was television, when cell phones were in prisons
and when e-mail was filed between d-mail and f-mail. Bottom line, 60 years
of anything is a great accomplishment and 60 years of wedded bliss is
especially noteworthy.
So, here's the deal.
Fran thinks a few people are going to gather at Applebee's after the rehearsal
on Dec. 12 and help her celebrate. But that's not going to happen. Instead,
we're getting a huge wedding cake and rolling it into Fellowship Hall
for a party after choir next week. We'll alert Mac and he'll sneak into
the building for the party on Dec.12. We want you to stay a little while
for the party, it won't take long and it will be a great way to help our
senior choir membercelebrate.
Plan on bringing a
card for Fran and a few dollars to help pay for the wedding cake. Give
your money to Ann Garber or Janie Walker. AND DON'T MENTION THIS TO FRAN.
THIS IS A SURPRISE FOR HER. If she happens to mention the Applebee's thing,
just say "isn't that's nice."

It is with
sadness that we must report the death of Joan Lemen's mother,Amanda

Joan and her sisters were with their mother. Funeral servicesare
pending for later this week.
CHANCEL CHOIR UPDATE
10/27 -- November Social/Cares and Concerns/December Outing
Steak N' Shake Thanksgiving Dinner Is Now Saturday, Nov. 23
We've rescheduled the Chancel Choir's Saturday evening Thanksgiving
Dinner at Steak N' Shake for Nov. 23 instead of Nov. 16. Once the choir
social director realized it would be the same week the choir returns from
New York, she decided we might have had enough of each other for one week.
So, Thanksgiving Dinner at Steak N' Shake is now set for 6:30 p.m., Saturday,
Nov. 23, at the Steak N' Shake on Manchester Road near Mason Road. Some
of you new members may wonder about Thanksgiving at Steak N' Shake. Well,
it's become a choir tradition. Last year about 35 people enjoyed turkey
sandwiches and pumpkin pie. (You can have a steak burger too, if you're
not a traditionalist). We'll need to know ahead of time if you plan to
attend. Either reply
to this email or call 636-227-5749 or tell Gary Ford in choir.
Joan Lemen's Mother
Is Diagnosed With Terminal Cancer
Alto Joan
Lemen has learned that her mother, Amanda Koechel, has been diagnosed
with a previously undiscovered cancer and has only a short time to live.
Joan had traveled this weekend to visit her mother in Emmaus, Penn., and
learned of the diagnosis when she arrived there. The diagnosis was a complete
surprise. Prayers of support for Joan and her sisters, Lesley and Janet,
are welcome, as well as prayers for their mother.
Coventry Choir
Christmas Dinner Is December Social Outing
Since the
Choir's dance card is getting full for December, any attempts to schedule
a social event in addition to the annual Christmas Party on Dec. 15 would
likely run into conflicts. So, as an added holiday option, we are offering
the annual Coventry Candlelight Christmas Dinner as an official December
social outing for the choir. The dinners will be held at 6:30 p.m. on
Friday and Saturday nights, Dec. 6 and 7, in New Fellowship Hall. Tickets
are $21 each and get you a Wassail bowl and appetizers, a delicious catered
gourmet meal, an hour of live choral Christmas music, and some handbell
music too. These dinner concerts sell out each year, so now is the time
to get your tickets. This year tickets will be on sale on Sunday mornings
beginning Nov. 3 in the "Resource Center" back near the Old Marble Narthex.
However, to avoid disappointment, I
would order my tickets by phone now. Just call Joy Parisien at 636-227-8655
to reserve your seats.
CHANCEL CHOIR UPDATE
10/18 -- Cares and Concerns
Jim Anderson's Sister and Brother-In-Law Involved In Car Crash
Jim Anderson, former baritone, and Carleen Anderson, soprano, report
that his brother-in-law, Tony Meany, was killed last Friday in a car crash
in South Carolina. His sister, Janet Meany, suffered a head injury, dislocated
shoulder, chip fractures of the elbow and thumb, and a collapsed lung.
She is now out of danger and has been moved from the ICU to a step-down
unit. Carleen reports she has a long recovery ahead, both physically and
emotionally, and has not acknowledged that she understands her husband
is dead. Jim's brother was buried yesterday at Jefferson Barracks National
cemetery here in St. Louis. They had been living in South Carolina for
the past three years. The couple's car was hit by a cement truck as they
were leaving their doctor's office following an appointment. Jim will
remain in South Carolina until next week. Carleen is asking the Chancel
Choir family for prayers for Janet's recovery and emotional healing
and for Tony's family in their time of loss.
No Surgery for
Janie Walker After All
Take Janie
Walker off the sick list, her doctor decided her gallstones weren't as
bad as first thought. Janie had been scheduled for a laparoscopic cholecystectomy
(gall bladder out with a scope) at St. Luke's this week, but got a last
minute reprieve. Hopefully, the symptoms will see a reprieve too.
Chancel Choir Email
Updates
From time
to time, as needed, I will send out Chancel Choir Updates by email to
inform the choir of a crisis in member's immediate family, illnesses,
cares and concerns, and necessary and timely announcements. Obviously,
we'll be selective in what needs the choir's immediate attention so we
won't wear out our welcome in your inbox. When you have a crisis or concern
to nominate for possible email distribution, send it to me at <garyford@fordcom.net>.

to a change in church policy.
Chancel Choir Christmas
Party on Dec. 14. The annual holiday extravaganza, again this year at
the Ballwin Golf Club. Good food and fun. The popular White Elephant Gift
Exchange will be significantly streamlined this year for even more fun

8/24: Death In The Chancel Choir Family
It is with
sadness that we must report to you the death of Penny Klebe's father in

him at a future time. Both Penny and Bob are on their way to Philadelphia
today.
CHANCEL CHOIR UPDATE
8/18: Fall Kickoff Party Is This Saturday
The annual
Chancel Choir fall kickoff party is this Saturday, Aug. 24. The party
will begin at 5:30 p.m. and will be held at the home of Sandy Wilmoth,
710 Chancellor Heights Dr. in Manchester. Every choir member should make
an effort to attend. New and prospective members should be invited to
attend. This is also our opportunity to introduce new members to the choir
family.
Here are some details
you should know about the party:
-- Food. This
is a potluck event. Please bring a dish or food item to share.
-- Seating.
Bring a lawn chair if you plan to sit down. While Sandy has some chairs,
we'll need more.
-- Drinks. Sodas
will be furnished. Other beverages need to come to the party with you.
-- Parking.
WARNING. The city of Manchester is fussy about parking on only one side
of the street in subdivisions. Check and make sure you don't see "No Parking"
signs on the side of the street where you are planning to park. They do
issue tickets and have raided the party with warnings
in the past.
-- Directions.
From the corner of Manchester and Henry roads, go north on Henry until
you reach Chancellor Heights Drive (the seventh street that turns right
at the end of a long wooden fence), turn right (east) and follow the street
around to the left. You will be facing Sandy's house. Call if you get
lost: 636-227-3144.
We hope to see
you there Saturday night. The choir's first rehearsal is August 29. We
will sing in church for this first time this season on September 8.
CHANCEL CHOIR UPDATE
8/13: Vandals Damage Choir Room at Church
This is
a quick note to let you know that the church was struck by vandals last
night (Monday night) and the choir room was severely damaged. By noon
on Tuesday, police detectives were continuing to process the effected
areas of the church and a general cleanup will begin later. Although several
areas of the church sustained damage, hardest hit was the choir room.
Pretty much everything in the room was ransacked and piled in the floor.
Choir robes, music, carts, chairs, electronic equipment were piled in
the middle of the room. The piano sustained some damage. Kevin's office,
as well as his personal effects, were severely damaged. Eedy's desk was
smashed and Lori/Sherry's office was damaged. There appeared to be no
damage to the Sanctuary. The Main Church Office received minor damage
to a wall and windows, but desks there were untouched. There is something
to be thankful for in all of this. Kevin was working late last night and
didn't leave the building until after 10 p.m. It is believed the vandals
hid in the building and waited for him to leave. We can be thankful that
he got out safely. |
